Guidelines for the ROC volunteers

ROC works with a variety of former refugee ethnic groups living in Waikato who have come from different countries, with their own culture, religion and language. The following guidelines will help volunteers who want to connect, learn and share with them by explaining the cultural sensitivities and thus avoid misunderstandings. This will help the former refugees to effectively embark on their integration journey into life in New Zealand.

The information for each community page is categorized as follows: General information (language, religion, capital, Independence Day, population and number in NZ); why people fled their country; when they first arrived in NZ as refugees; greetings, title and naming, conversation, etiquette, family, and how to avoid giving offence.
